Nick Leeson Rogue trader 'eyes deals'

Nick Leeson Rogue trader…

Rogue trader Nick Leeson is back playing the financial markets, but only occasionally - and with his own money.

The man whose illegal financial dealing brought down Barings Bank in 1995 has been general manager of Irish football club Galway United since 2005.

But he admitted he still found the time to dabble in some currency trading.

Leeson is free to trade with his own cash but would need authorisation to join a bank, something which he said he had no plans to do.

Dabbling

Leeson spent more than three and a half years in a Singapore jail after being convicted of fraud, having racked up huge losses in a series of currency dealings.

He told the BBC that he still took an interest in the financial markets.

"I do trade currencies personally, using my own money," he said.

But he said a report by Bloomberg News that he might return to trading full-time some day and that he had been frequently approached by people to manage their money had been "blown out of context".
